The traditional approach to touring is that a performance is presented at many different venues but often remains unchanged. The process led nature of Live Art has led to the development of different kinds of approaches to touring where performances are adapted and altered by their contexts.
In 2007 Live Art UK announced a touring commission for artists interested in making work conceived to be responsive to different sites, contexts and constituencies. Five artists were selected to develop their ideas with a research and development grant and from this shortlist two projects were developed into touring works.
Live Art UK was delighted to tour Susannah Hewlett’s Its Not You and Joshua Sofaer’s Getting To Know You in early 2008. Both projects had a particular focus on audiences and completed successful tours to three UK venues.
The commissioned projects were selected through an open call in October 2006. More information about the background to the scheme and application procedures are available for reference on this site.
